UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES TO EXTEND DATE FOR COMPLIANCE WITH THE NEC MANDATE FOR CORD FIRE PROTECTION ON ROOM AIR CONDITIONERS

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, August 13, 2002 – Robert S. Wiggins, Chairman and CEO for Technology Research Corporation (TRC), (NASDAQ:TRCI), announced today that the Company has been informed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) that it intends to delay the date for implementation of cord fire protection on room air conditioners manufactured for use in the U.S. from December 19, 2003 to August 2004.

The Company understands the delay will be granted by UL to accommodate the model year change for the air conditioner manufacturers.

Wiggins indicated that since the Company had previously made several public announcements concerning the potential significance of TRC’s participation in this market, it felt compelled to inform shareholders of this eight month delay.  While the market is expected to be highly competitive, the Company believes it could realize significant revenues from this opportunity.
