CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, June 11, 2001 -- Raymond H. Legatti, President of Technology Research Corporation (TRC), (NASDAQ:TRCI), announced today that under a license agreement with Applica Consumer Products, Inc., TRC’s FireShield® Technology will be incorporated as part of an Advanced Safety Technology® (AST) system into Applica Consumer Products, Inc.’s new line of Black & Decker© Heaters and several Black & Decker© Toasters.

According to Legatti, “We are pleased that Applica Consumer Products, Inc. has selected our FireShield® Technology to be included as part of its Advanced Safety Technology® system for their new heaters and toasters.”

Applica Consumer Products, Inc. will incorporate the FireShield® Line Cord Protection in its new line of heaters, preventing electrical fires by automatically shutting off the power to the heater if there is damage to the cord.  In its new toasters, Applica Consumer Products, Inc. will utilize the FireShield® Shock Prevention Technology -- preventing electric shock if the consumer attempts to dislodge jammed food with a metal utensil such as a fork or knife -- and FireShield® Flame Sensor Technology, which shuts the toaster off if food in the slot ignites.
