CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, April 17, 2001 – Technology Research Corporation (TRC), (NASDAQ:TRCI), announced today that PETCO Animal Supplies Inc. (PETCO), a national chain of 530 pet specialty superstores, will begin distribution of the Fire Shield Safety Extension Cord.

“Fire Shield provides a new level of safety for our customers who have pets that chew cords.  We plan to offer the Fire Shield product through out our network of pet specialty superstores,” according to Troy Curnett, the PETCO buyer.

“TRC is excited that PETCO will be distributing our Fire Shield Safety Extension Cords through their chain of pet specialty superstores,” said Ned Schiff, vice president of U.S. commercial marketing and sales for TRC.  He added, “The patented Fire Shield product combines a special shielded cord with plug-mounted electronics to prevent cord fires while providing ground fault protection.  This innovative new product protects pets that are prone to chewing, biting and clawing at cords.  In December 2000, the Fire Shield Safety Extension Cord was named one of the top twenty pet products by Dog World magazine.  Fire Shield, with its built-in ground fault circuitry, is also ideally suited for use with aquarium applications.”

Fire Shield will be available in PETCO stores beginning May 4, 2001.  The addition of the PETCO stores expands the distribution of the Fire Shield Extension Cords to approximately 1000 consumer retail outlets.
